Where We Live in Los Alamitos

Some of you have asked about the house we live in. We live in a house with Susan Child. She is a paraplegic of 22 years. Our mission president asked if we would come live with her so our rent money could help her out financially. Our address is 2861 Bostonian Dr., Los Alamitos, CA 90720. You can look at it on Google Maps.

We'll show you some photos of the place.

Easter Dinner- Silly Sister Missionaries
We had Sister Child, Ruth's Sister Cathy, these 2 sister missionaries and Mike
at Easter dinner

April 26th we decided to go take some pictures of sunset at Sunset Beach.
It was cold and windy. We had most of the beach to ourselves.

High tide was coming in.

Oh, yes. Nearly sunset. We were cold, so we left after this photo was taken.

Well, there you have some more of our adventures is So. California!

A MISSION....AT LAST!

OUR  MISSION UP TO DECEMBER 30, 2013

On March 27, 2013, we received our call to Brazil Sao Paulo South Mission to serve in the Perpetual Education Fund program. We were to enter the MTC on November 4. On October 30 we received a call from the Missionary Department to suggest that we accept a reassignment since we had waited so long (7 months) and we jumped at the chance. We got our new call on November 8 to enter the MTC on November 18 and serve in the California Long Beach Mission office. We had only a full week to get our preparations finished up, pack up and head out.

Nope, not Brazil!!
We entered the MTC and stayed at Ruth's sister's house. (Cathy) Spent Thanksgiving at Darrin's and left for Las Vegas the next morning. We attended the Las Vegas Temple that evening and then arrived in Long Beach shortly after noon.
Us at Cathy's house- on our way to Long Beach

It has been an interesting and challenging experience thus far and we have a lot still to learn. We have met many missionaries and loved them all and they really show us a lot of love too.

A Spanish branch and the only Cambodian ward in the church also meet here.
It is a very interesting building.

The primary posed for photos for a Christmas card for their families.

We drove down the beach our first P day (Saturday).

A table full of sisters at the Christmas conference.
With 260 missionaries it took 3 conferences to include them all.

The thank you for the people who prepared and served the dinner--
the entire group singing "Called to Serve", and "As I Have Loved You".
Awesome.....Powerful!!
Cornered by 1 morning of Christmas packages.
Remember: 260 missionaries- all packages come to the mission office!

The mission map. The red outlined area is the boundary.
We are surrounded- left to right- by the
Los Angeles, Arcadia, Rancho Cuchamunga, Anaheim, and Irvine missions.
The furthest distance in any direction is 20 miles (2+ million people)
(sorry about the flash)

(I think that if you click on the pictures you can see them in a larger view.)

Well, we are here, we are fine, we are warm (Christmas Day at the beach we were at 80 degrees), we are happy about choosing to do a mission, we love the work and the missionaries, and we love Long Beach and the surrounding areas (like how Salt lake is surrounded by areas like Sandy, Magna, West Jordan, etc.) We love and appreciate you all and pray for health, happiness, and success.

And a PS: Ruth's sister Cathy was called to our mission, too! She arrives Feb 8, 2014 and will serve for a year in the Fountain Valley Employment Services Center. She will be serving about 10 miles from where we live. Who'd have thunk!

GRANDKIDS ARE A GIFT FROM GOD!

Yes, we moved from Wellington to West Jordan, July 1st. It has been an interesting and rewarding time. We have been more involved with family because we live within 15 min. of five of our kids and 8 of our grandkids. Angie and her family are still in New Mexico.

This is a photo of where we live in West Jordan. We don't spend a lot of time here.

This year we actually had a garden. Kyle and Cindy had this spot at the back of the patio and they let us put the garden in there. We harvested zucchini, summer squash, cucumbers, and some tomatoes. As you see here, the snow fell on it but it didn't affect it much- until the next storm.

We tended lots of grandkids this summer. THAT is why we moved to Salt Lake. We've had lots of adventures with family members. Here are some.Remy and Tate at the Living Planet Aquarium

Cody's Birthday ( and we went to Tanner's, too).

Angie and the kids came up to visit for the October Bradshaw thanksgiving.
Here is a photo of the two sets of twins.

Aaron and Isaac showing off their matching coats and their cute smiles.

As anyone can tell, these are really handsome little boys- not just because the shirts say so.

Their grandma Bradshaw is busy being Isaac's personal tailor. The normal size clothes just don't fit. He needs longer-legged newborns, so grandma has started sewing him pants.

This is just an interesting scene we took in Orem one afternoon. The moon has just risen over Mt. Timpanogas- just as the sunset produced some beautiful colors on the mountain.

All in all, this has been a big, but a good change for us. Next big change- a mission?
